An exhibition showcasing the history of Islamic art, “Islam: Faith & Worship,” opened this week in Abu Dhabi, one of the United Arab Emirates. Turkish State Minister Selma Aliye Kavaf attended the opening of the exhibit at the Emirates Palace Hotel, which featured a performance by the Ottoman Army Marching Band.
The exhibition, organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage, will be on display until Oct. 22. It features 161 pieces, most of which are from Istanbul’s Topkapı Palace Museum and Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Organizers of the exhibition took an unprecedented approach to displaying the objects, presenting them as part of a “storyline" that encompasses many aspects of the Islamic faith.
An intricately embroidered Kaaba curtain, allowed out of Topkapı Palace for the first time in almost 200 years, is among the works of art on display.
