Obama commends THE 99 superheroes for embodying teachings and tolerance of Islam.

WASHINGTON - It was a proud moment for THE 99 superheroes when US President Obama made a special mention about the intellectual property and its creator, Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa in his speech at the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, which took place on April 26 and 27 at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Obama commended THE 99 for capturing the imaginations of young people through its message of tolerance. Hundreds of entrepreneurs from all over the globe, including Al-Mutawa, attended the summit, which highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship, job creation and community development. "I have to say perhaps the most innovative response (to America's reaching out to the Muslim World) was from Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa of Kuwait who joins us here tonight," said Obama. "His comic books have captured the imagination of so many young people with superheroes who embody the teachings and tolerance of Islam." "After my speech in Cairo, he had a similar idea: so in his comic book, Superman and Batman reached out to their Muslim counterparts," added Obama. "And I hear they're making progress too, absolutely," Obama said jestingly.

Meanwhile, US cable channel, The Hub, announced that they have added THE 99 to their fall list of original programming. The new network, a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery will launch on October 10 this year into 60 million American homes.

The new 26-episode animated series is drawn from THE 99 superhero comic books. It is the accomplishment of Teshkeel Media Group, the Kuwait company that has brought to the project some of the finest creative talent from around the world. Television giant Endemol UK (Big Brother, Star Academy, Deal Or No Deal, etc) is Teshkeel’s production partner in bringing THE 99 to the worldwide stage. In Kuwait last February, 'THE 99 Village’, where the superheroes were transformed from comic characters to a three-dimensional setting, had celebrated its first anniversary.

The Village in Jahra is seen as the first true theme park in Kuwait and one of the first in the Middle East, where young fans were delighted to have their pictures taken with their favorite superheroes.
